I first want to thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. My name is Jamie and I'm a sixth grade teacher in North Carolina.  I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember.  I received my undergraduate degree in elementary education and took my first job filling in for a maternity leave for sixth grade math and science.  During this time teaching I quickly realized I didn't know what techniques to use for students with disabilities.  Instead of signing my contract for another year I decided to take a break to get my master's degree.  I majored in Special Education with a minor in Emotional/Behavior disorders.  Graduate school was one of the best experiences of my life and I loved learning how I could better teach students with disabilities.  I finished my degree in a year and last year I took my first full year position teaching sixth grade language arts and social studies.
My first full year of teaching was full of learning experiences and looking back I can point out so many mistakes that I made.  However, I am not discouraged, I am thrilled at the opportunity to teach the same grade and subjects again. I also will be our middle school's cheerleading coach this year.  Last year I coached during basketball season, but this year it is all me.  I have a lot to look forward to when school starts in the fall, and I can't wait to share it with everyone.
